Gunmen Kidnap Principal, Students During School Attack In Oyo Community

Gunmen invaded Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday morning, abducting a secondary school principal and an unspecified number of students.

According to the Oyo State Police Command, the attack took place between 8:00 am and 9:00 am at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, noting that the attackers stormed the school and whisked away students whose exact number is yet to be determined, alongside the principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu.

The statement read, “Gunmen have invaded Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting the principal of a secondary school and an unspecified number of students.”

A local resident further reported that a teacher was also shot during the assault.

“The source also said a teacher was shot during the attack, though the extent of the injury has not been confirmed.

“According to the report, the gunmen fled the scene with the principal in her vehicle and escaped into a forest reserve bordering the community.

Residents said the nearest police station is some distance away, which delayed immediate response,” he said.

The police command added that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the deployment of officers to the area to assess the situation and begin rescue operations.
