The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating across Akure metropolis alleging the imposition of a traditional curfew, describing the claim as false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary panic among residents.
The command stated that no curfew had been declared in Akure or any part of the state, stressing that the current security situation does not warrant fear or apprehension.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the rumour was deliberately being spread to stir fear, confusion, and tension within the state.
“The command states categorically that no such curfew exists and there is no security development warranting panic or apprehension among residents,” the statement read.
Residents were advised to ignore the false information and continue their lawful activities without fear, while relying only on verified and credible sources for updates on security matters.

The police also warned individuals and groups responsible for spreading fake news and misinformation to desist immediately, noting that such actions threaten public peace and security.
The command added that anyone found culpable in the circulation of false information would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The clarification from the police came barely 24 hours after the Palace of the Deji of Akure reportedly issued a similar denial, rejecting rumours of a traditional curfew expected to begin by 9pm.
Akure and other parts of Ondo State have witnessed growing security concerns in recent months, including incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related violence.
Despite the challenges, the police assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring public safety across the state.
