Eid-El-Kabir: IGP Orders Nationwide Security Deployment

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has conveyed Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims nationwide while directing heightened security operations across the country ahead of the celebrations.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the police leadership reaffirmed its resolve to protect lives and property during the festive period.

According to the statement, “The Inspector-General joins all Nigerians in celebrating this auspicious occasion and prays for peace, unity, and prosperity for our great nation.”

The IGP instructed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all state commands, including the Federal Capital Territory, to reinforce security presence and step up proactive policing strategies nationwide.

The statement explained that the security arrangements would involve the deployment of tactical squads, intelligence officers, and regular police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreation centres, critical infrastructure, and other crowded public locations expected to witness increased movement during the festivities.

It further stated that officers would intensify visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance activities, and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations to curb criminal activities and respond swiftly to potential threats.

Disu also appealed to Nigerians to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing prompt and useful information, noting that public vigilance was essential to ensuring a safe celebration.

“Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” he said.

The police chief urged citizens to quickly report suspicious individuals, unattended items, or unusual movements around Eid grounds, markets, motor parks, and other public areas.

“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.

To support emergency response efforts, the police provided dedicated contact numbers for the public: 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786.

While extending best wishes to Muslims for a peaceful Eid-el-Adha celebration, the IGP assured Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s continued dedication to public safety and national security.
