NDC Disowns Circulating Primary Results, Says No Official Candidate Declared

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming to show the outcome of its nationwide primary elections, insisting that no candidate has been officially confirmed for the 2027 general elections.

The party said results from its primaries held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, and Friday, May 29, 2026, remain under the custody of its National Executive Council (NEC), which it described as the only authorized body to vet, ratify and announce final winners.

In a statement on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC urged the public to ignore unverified lists being shared online, describing them as misleading and unofficial.

“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on May 28 and May 29, 2026,” the statement said.

The party said the clarification followed growing speculation over alleged winners from its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state assembly primaries.

According to the statement, all results have been submitted to the NEC for review and approval, stressing that no official announcement will be made until the process is concluded.

The party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has directed that the NEC be convened in Abuja to consider the primaries’ outcome.

NEC members are expected in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, for a preparatory session ahead of the main meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The NDC said the meeting will determine its final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections after internal screening and ratification.

It added that only the officially approved list will be transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to INEC,” the statement added.

The party reiterated that no primary results have been formally adopted, urging members and supporters to disregard unofficial publications.

The NEC meeting, it said, remains central to concluding the nomination process ahead of the 2027 elections.
