Wike Apologises Over Roaming Cattle in Abuja, Promises Improved Infrastructure

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has apologised to residents over the continued presence of roaming cattle on major roads and streets across Abuja, admitting that the situation remains a challenge despite ongoing efforts to improve the nation’s capital.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike accepted responsibility for the development and assured residents that measures were being taken to address the issue.

“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility,” the minister said.

The presence of cattle on Abuja’s roads has long been a source of concern for residents and motorists, with repeated complaints about traffic disruptions, public safety risks and the city’s image as the nation’s capital.

Beyond the issue of roaming livestock, Wike highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory, stressing that the administration’s development efforts extend beyond the city centre to satellite communities and area councils.

“Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he said.

According to the minister, the projects span several sectors, including road construction, water supply and housing development for public officials.

Wike further disclosed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would embark on an extensive project inauguration programme in collaboration with President Bola Tinubu to commemorate the administration’s third anniversary in office.

“To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” he stated.

The minister maintained that ongoing road construction projects across the territory have significantly improved accessibility and enhanced security in several communities.

He also insisted that residents of the Federal Capital Territory are already experiencing the benefits of policies and development initiatives being implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike reaffirmed the commitment of the FCTA to sustaining infrastructure development while addressing lingering challenges affecting residents, including the issue of cattle roaming on major roads within the capital city.
