The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and prosecuted a woman, identified as Olatunde Mary, for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on her husband during a domestic altercation in Akure, the state capital.
The suspect, a resident of Ilado II along Igbatoro Road, was arraigned before a competent court after police investigations established a prima facie case against her.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident was reported to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit at the Command Headquarters in Akure on June 3.
Police investigations revealed that the alleged assault occurred on June 2 at about 2:30 p.m. during a disagreement between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius.
The police noted that Mary allegedly attacked her husband and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, causing serious bodily injuries.
The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment, where the severity of the injury was assessed and documented.
Following the report, detectives launched an investigation, obtaining statements from both parties and gathering evidence related to the incident.

The police said that after concluding investigations and establishing sufficient grounds for prosecution, the suspect was arrested and charged before a court in accordance with the law.
The Ondo State Police Command described domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals, stressing that offenders would be held accountable regardless of gender, social status or relationship with the victim.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling gender-based violence and ensuring justice for victims of abuse.
Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu assured residents that all reported cases of domestic violence and related offences would be thoroughly investigated and diligently prosecuted.
He also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic abuse, violence and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the Gender-Based Violence Unit for immediate intervention.
The case is expected to continue in court as legal proceedings progress.
