Police Probe Killing Of FUBK Student In Kalgo Hostel

The Kebbi State Police Command has opened a full investigation into the death of Zaharadden Nuhu, a 300-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), who died after being injured in an attack at a private student residence in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, June 11, 2026, at a privately operated compound housing students, which is not owned or supervised by the university.

In a statement released on Friday, June 12, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said preliminary investigations showed that the student was discovered with injuries at the scene and immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, where he later died while receiving treatment. He said the attacker had not yet been identified.

According to him, police operatives moved swiftly to the scene after receiving the report, secured the area, and commenced a detailed investigation to determine what led to the attack.

The command said efforts were ongoing to trace and apprehend those responsible for the incident, adding that justice would be ensured once suspects are identified.

SP Usman urged residents of Kalgo and members of the university community to remain calm and avoid speculation or unverified reports that could worsen tension in the area.

He also called on members of the public with relevant information to assist ongoing investigations, assuring that all inputs would be handled confidentially.

The police reiterated their commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and promised regular updates as the investigation continues.

The killing has sparked concern among students and residents, who are calling for clarity and swift action from security authorities.
