Ekiti Election: Police Enforce Statewide Movement Ban, Exempt WASSCE Candidates

The Ekiti State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction on vehicular movement on Saturday, June 20, 2026, ahead of the governorship election.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Ado-Ekiti, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the restriction will run from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. across all intra-state and inter-state routes in the state.

The order covers all forms of transportation, including private cars, commercial buses, trucks, tricycles, and motorcycles.

Abutu said the measure is part of security arrangements designed to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and violence-free election.

Exemptions were granted to candidates sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other approved national examinations.

The Command advised travellers transiting through Ekiti State during the restriction period to adjust their plans, warning that enforcement will be strict.

It also banned movement of VIPs with armed escorts to polling units and collation centres, while prohibiting vigilante groups and other non-statutory security outfits from election duties.

Only security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) will be deployed for election security operations.
