A 100-level student of a tertiary institution in Delta State has allegedly stabbed his younger brother to death following a violent disagreement in their shared hostel accommodation.
The incident occurred on June 17, 2026, involving two brothers, Fejiro and Joseph, aged 21 and 19 respectively, who both attend the same institution and live together in housing arranged by their parents.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident in a video statement released on Monday through its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who described the case as deeply troubling and linked it to poor moral upbringing.
According to him, the dispute between the siblings first escalated into a physical confrontation inside their residence, prompting neighbours to intervene and separate them. However, the fight reportedly resumed shortly after.
He said the disagreement, which allegedly started over bedroom slippers, escalated further when the brothers moved to the back of the house and continued fighting despite earlier efforts to calm the situation.

The police spokesperson stated that Fejiro later picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed his younger brother multiple times before fleeing the scene.
“Now, the elder brother named Fejiro, who is about three years older than the younger brother, took a kitchen knife and stabbed his younger brother multiple times and ran away,” he said.
He added that the suspect has gone into hiding, and security operatives are currently tracking him.
“Till now, he is at large. Till now, we are still looking for him,” he stated.
He also said investigators are exploring possible drug influence or cult-related involvement, although the case remains under investigation.
“It is either abuse of drugs or cultism. It is either of the two,” he said.
The police command assured that the suspect would be arrested and brought to justice, while urging parents to instill strong moral values in their children to prevent similar tragedies.
