Appeal Court Acquits Daga Of Sexual Assault Charge

Former Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been cleared of sexual assault allegations after a Norwegian Court of Appeal overturned his earlier conviction, paving the way for his return to action with Molde FK.

The Norwegian club confirmed the development in a statement released on its website on Thursday, stating that the appeal court unanimously acquitted the Nigerian midfielder.

“Daniel Daga is unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been dealt with by the Frostating Court of Appeal.

Molde FK takes note of the verdict, although the judgment is not yet legally binding,” the club said in a statement on its website on Thursday.

The case dates back to an incident said to have occurred in April 2025. Daga, 19, was formally charged on December 19, 2025, and in March 2026 received a six-month prison sentence after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.

Following the conviction, Molde FK suspended the midfielder indefinitely from first-team activities pending the outcome of the legal process.

Reacting to the appeal court’s decision, the club said Daga’s employment status had now been resolved and confirmed he would be eligible for selection again.

The club recognises that this has been a serious and burdensome case for everyone who has been affected.

“Since the indictment was filed, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibilities as an employer.

Now that the Court of Appeal’s judgment has been delivered and Daniel Daga has been acquitted, we consider the employment situation to be clarified, and Daniel will be available for selection for Molde FK going forward.”

Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, had consistently insisted on his innocence after the March conviction and later filed the appeal that resulted in the acquittal.

The former Flying Eagles player joined Molde at the beginning of the 2025 season and has featured in 15 matches for the Norwegian side, scoring three goals.
