APC Ends Speculation, Retains Shettima On Tinubu’s 2027 Ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation over the party’s ticket.

The confirmation came on Friday, July 10, 2026, when the ruling party received the completed nomination papers of Tinubu and Shettima at its national secretariat in Abuja for submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, presented the documents to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in the presence of governors, members of the National Working Committee, federal lawmakers, ministers and other senior party officials.

The submission precedes INEC’s 6 p.m. deadline on Saturday, July 11, 2026, for political parties to upload the nomination forms of their presidential and National Assembly candidates.

APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, said the presentation completed the party’s nomination process for its presidential ticket and urged members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking for APC governors, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, reaffirmed the governors’ backing for Tinubu’s re-election and called on party members to mobilise support for all APC candidates.

Receiving the nomination papers, Yilwatda said the APC would seek re-election on the strength of the Tinubu administration’s record, citing its student loan scheme, infrastructure development and agricultural programmes.

He also challenged APC governors to deliver overwhelming votes for the party in their respective states, expressing confidence that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket would secure another mandate.

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka later confirmed that Tinubu and Shettima had been formally adopted as the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election.

The submission of the nomination papers formally settles the question over Shettima’s place on the APC ticket and clears the way for the ruling party to begin its re-election campaign with its 2023 presidential pairing intact.
