National Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has said he possesses greater knowledge and understanding than many university graduates despite never receiving a formal education.
The transport union leader made the remarks at the 50th birthday celebration of Islamic singer Hafsat Adegoke in Lagos, where he reflected on his journey from a young bus conductor to becoming one of Nigeria’s most influential transport union figures.
According to him, his success was built on years of practical experience, discipline and learning on the job rather than classroom education.
MC Oluomo recalled that he began earning and spending his own money at the age of 13 after working daily as a bus conductor from noon until 6 p.m.
He said he often used part of his earnings to watch Indian films at Danjuma Cinema or Pen Cinema before returning home to support his mother financially.
He explained that he deliberately joined the National Union of Road Transport Workers after mastering the trade from the grassroots, stressing that his rise through the ranks was based on experience and commitment.
“I didn’t go to school, but the knowledge and understanding I possess in my head are greater than those held by people with degrees,” he said.
Despite lacking formal education, MC Oluomo said he ensured his children received quality schooling, describing their achievements as one of his greatest accomplishments.
He disclosed that his children include a doctor, a lawyer and an engineer, adding that nine of his children currently reside in the United States.
The NURTW chairman also offered prayers for the continued well-being of Nigerian children, asking God to protect them from untimely death.
His comments highlighted his belief that while formal education is valuable, practical experience, determination and hard work can also play a significant role in achieving success.
