The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with ammunition, 79 additional rounds of live ammunition and other suspected military items in the Bichi Local Government Area of the state.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dala Local Government Area, was arrested on Saturday following credible intelligence from residents of Rimaye Village.

The police said operatives of the Bichi Division swiftly moved to the area after receiving reports of a man wearing a suspected military uniform.

The statement noted that the suspect was intercepted with the assistance of members of the Rimawa community, who alerted security personnel to his presence.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card and a pair of desert boots.

According to the police, the suspect confessed during interrogation that he had travelled to the area to deliver the recovered items to bandits operating in the bush.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended members of the Rimawa community for their vigilance and timely information, describing community collaboration as critical to tackling crime.

“This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all the good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility,” Bakori said.

The command said the suspect remains in custody while discreet investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.

It added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.

Authorities have repeatedly stressed that public cooperation remains vital to disrupting criminal networks and improving security across the region.
