Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since lifting the trophy in South Africa in 2010 after a commanding 2-0 victory over France in Tuesday’s semi-final.
Captain Mikel Oyarzabal gave La Roja the lead in the 22nd minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot to put the European champions in control.
Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through Pedro Porro, whose well-taken strike sealed victory and ended France’s hopes of reaching the final.
The win sends Spain into their first World Cup final in 16 years, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina.
