Nnamdi Kanu Sues Woman Over Alleged Viral Defamation, Demands ₦500.2bn

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a ₦500.2 billion defamation suit against Lolo Nneka Chimezie at the Enugu State High Court over alleged false and damaging claims circulated in social media videos.

The suit, marked E/746/2026, was filed by Kanu’s legal team led by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor through his attorney, Prince Emmanuel Kanu.

According to the court documents, Kanu alleged that Chimezie published a series of videos between April and June 2026 on platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and X, containing statements he described as false, malicious and defamatory.

He claimed the publications portrayed him as corrupt, dishonest and unfit to lead IPOB, causing damage to his reputation and exposing him to public ridicule and contempt.

Kanu challenged allegations contained in the videos, including claims that he impregnated an 18-year-old woman in Enugu, bought property for her, received money from governors, associated with criminal elements and engaged in practices contrary to his public beliefs.

The IPOB leader denied the allegations, describing them as fabricated and insisting that they were published without justification or regard for the truth.

He alleged that the videos gained widespread circulation online and were repeatedly shared, increasing the damage to his reputation among supporters, associates and members of the public.

Kanu is asking the court to declare the publications defamatory and unlawful, while also seeking an order restraining Chimezie and anyone acting on her behalf from further publishing similar claims.

He is demanding ₦500 billion in general damages and ₦200 million in aggravated and exemplary damages, arguing that the alleged publications caused serious injury to his character and public standing.

He is also seeking an order compelling Chimezie to issue a full retraction and apology within 14 days of judgment, with the apology published in three national newspapers and on the social media platforms where the disputed videos were allegedly shared.

The suit further seeks 10 per cent annual interest on any judgment sum from the date of judgment until full payment, as well as the cost of the legal proceedings.

The matter is before the Enugu State High Court and awaits further proceedings.
