Missing Engineers: Sowore Demands Umahi’s Arrest, Prosecution

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the arrest, investigation and prosecution of the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, over the unresolved disappearance of five NELAN Consulting Limited engineers during Umahi’s tenure as governor of Ebonyi State.

Sowore made the demand on Monday, July 20, 2026, while addressing journalists outside the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He said the engineers’ disappearance remains unresolved and should be thoroughly investigated, alleging that DNA tests reportedly showed that remains earlier presented as those of the missing men did not match the victims.

Sowore also claimed that a family had remained in detention in Ebonyi State since 2025 on Umahi’s orders, although he provided no evidence to support the allegation.

The activist further criticized the Ebonyi International Airport project, describing it as an expensive facility that has yet to justify the investment.

Insisting that dismissal from office would be inadequate, Sowore urged security agencies to arrest, investigate and prosecute the minister if found culpable.

He also rejected suggestions that communal clashes could explain the disappearance of the engineers, maintaining that the case deserves a full criminal investigation.

The five NELAN Consulting engineers disappeared on November 3, 2021, while on their way to supervise the Abakaliki Ring Road project in Ebonyi State. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
