President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor and ex-Senator Jonah David Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the appointment on Saturday, August 1, 2026, while representing President Tinubu at the 80th birthday celebration of the former governor and the unveiling of his autobiography in Jos, Plateau State.
Shettima, who delivered the President’s goodwill message at the event, disclosed Yakubu Jang’s appointment before an audience of political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.

The ceremony at the Tamarald Event Centre was attended by former President Goodluck Jonathan, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, serving and former governors, lawmakers, senior public officials and associates of the Jang family.
The event also featured the presentation of Jonah Jang’s memoir, Airman to Politics: My Life, which highlights his journey from a career in the Nigerian Air Force to public service and politics.
A retired Air Force officer, Jang served as Military Administrator before becoming Plateau State governor for two terms and later representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the Senate.
Yakubu Jang’s appointment adds to the family’s long involvement in public service and comes as the Tinubu administration continues to appoint aides and officials to support its governance agenda.
