The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, August 1, 2026, began displaying the personal particulars of candidates contesting the 2027 General Elections, giving members of the public an opportunity to scrutinize documents submitted by aspirants.
The exercise, conducted in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, featured the particulars of presidential candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside candidates for the National Assembly.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), INEC displayed the documents at its headquarters and across the six Area Council offices to ensure wider public access.
The Administrative Secretary of INEC in the FCT, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, who represented the Resident Electoral Commissioner, said the publication was a statutory requirement aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

She explained that the law mandates the commission to display candidates’ personal particulars, affidavits and other relevant documents in the constituencies where they seek election, allowing citizens and stakeholders to examine the information provided.
Oladunjoye urged political parties, civil society organizations, the media and the public to take advantage of the exercise, describing it as an important step towards strengthening confidence in the electoral system.
She assured that INEC’s preparations for the 2027 General Elections remain on course and that all stages of the process would be conducted in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the commission’s regulations and guidelines.
The latest development forms part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 polls, following the submission of candidates’ nomination documents by political parties and the commencement of statutory procedures required ahead of the elections.
