No fewer than 17 family members linked to the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), a faction of Boko Haram, have voluntarily surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai during separate operations in Borno State.
The military said the surrenders occurred on August 4, 2026, in Konduga and Bama Local Government Areas following sustained offensives against terrorist hideouts across the North-East.
According to the military on Wednesday, the first incident took place at about 9:15 a.m. when troops of the 222 Battalion, while conducting a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga LGA, received 16 JAS family members made up of 10 women and six children who voluntarily laid down their allegiance to the terrorist group.
During preliminary interrogation, the group reportedly attributed its decision to surrender to the relentless military operations that had continued to weaken terrorist enclaves in the region. Security operatives also recovered ₦92,000 from the group during the surrender process.

In a separate development later that day, at about 12:04 p.m., an 11-year-old member of a JAS family also surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area.
Military authorities said the minor similarly cited sustained operational pressure mounted by troops against terrorist elements as the reason for voluntarily surrendering.
The surrendered individuals are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing initial profiling and debriefing before being transferred to the appropriate authorities for further screening, rehabilitation where applicable, and other administrative procedures in line with established guidelines.
The military described the latest development as another indication of the effectiveness of ongoing counter-terrorism operations aimed at dismantling insurgent camps, disrupting their logistics and communication networks, and restricting their freedom of movement across the theatre of operations.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups in the North-East, assuring that troops would continue to intensify pressure on criminal elements while providing an opportunity for those willing to surrender peacefully to do so through established procedures.
