First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to harness education, innovation and entrepreneurship while participating actively in civic life to advance their aspirations and national development.
She made the call on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in a message marking International Youth Day 2026, observed globally on August 12 under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
Tinubu said young people across different backgrounds share common aspirations, including quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities and a sustainable future.
She urged Nigerian youths to remain focused and hardworking, develop their skills and make productive use of available opportunities to realize their potential.

The First Lady also called on government and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment where young people can develop their abilities and contribute meaningfully to society.
Her message follows a similar appeal on August 12, 2025, when she called for greater investment in young Nigerians during International Youth Day. The 2025 theme was “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships.”
The 2026 theme highlights the shared aspirations of young people despite differences in their circumstances, with education, employment, equal opportunity and sustainability remaining central concerns.
Tinubu urged youths to turn opportunities into productive outcomes and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12 to highlight issues affecting young people and recognize their contributions to development.
