Ronaldo Hints At Football Exit After 2026-27

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the 2026-27 season could be his last as a professional footballer, saying he will “probably” retire after the coming campaign.

The 41-year-old Portugal captain made the disclosure in an interview with Vogue published on Sunday, August 16, 2026, saying he wants to end his career by leaving a “spectacular legacy”.

Ronaldo began his senior career with Sporting in 2002 and later starred for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus before joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr in 2022.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has won five Champions League titles, the 2016 European Championship and two UEFA Nations League trophies with Portugal.

The World Cup remains the major honour missing from his collection. His sixth and final appearance at the tournament ended on July 6, 2026, when Portugal lost 1-0 to Spain in the last 16.

Ronaldo had already indicated in November 2025 that retirement was approaching, saying it was “soon” and clarifying that he meant within one or two years. He later extended his Al-Nassr contract until 2027.

The veteran forward is also pursuing 1,000 career goals, having reached 976 for club and country. He needs 24 more to reach the landmark.

Looking beyond football, Ronaldo said he plans to travel, pursue other interests and play more padel after retirement.

He has not announced a definite retirement date, but his latest comments suggest the final chapter of his playing career could be only one season away.
