Fayose Says Atiku Too Old To Contest 2027 Election

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, is too old to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Fayose made the remark while featuring on TVC’s Politics Tonight, where he compared Atiku’s age and continued political ambition to that of former United States President Joe Biden.

“Atiku is now really old. He’s a good man, but time has caught up with him. Atiku contesting an election is like calling Biden to come and contest again,” Fayose said.

The former governor also identified President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku and the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, as politicians who may be making their final attempts at securing the presidency.

“Let me say this again: President Bola Tinubu, Atiku and Peter Obi, this is their last chance of contesting an election. The three of them,” he said.

Fayose also questioned the political strength of Atiku’s running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, particularly in Rivers State and the wider South-South region.

According to him, Amaechi may struggle to secure significant support in Rivers State because of what he described as limited political influence and divisions within the party structures.

“In Rivers State, during this election, Amaechi will have very little support. Even the party is not together,” Fayose said.

He further argued that many members of the ADC and NDC were yet to establish strong grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Most of these ADC and Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, members are not on ground. Nobody is connected to those parties yet,” he added.

Fayose’s comments come amid increasing political realignments and preparations by major political parties and presidential contenders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
