Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has provided N20,000 each to 1,490 members of the National Youth Service Corps deployed to the state, bringing the total financial support to N29.8 million.
The intervention is aimed at helping the corps members meet transportation costs and other immediate needs as they leave the orientation camp for their places of primary assignment across the state.
The donation was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by James Sani, Information Officer at the Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Ododo announced the support during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II NYSC Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, the governor said his administration remained committed to supporting young people and providing an environment where they could contribute to the state’s socio-economic growth.
Sani quoted the governor as saying, “This administration has unwavering confidence in the capacity of young people to excel and contribute positively to the implementation of youth-focused development programmes.”
Ododo urged the corps members to integrate responsibly into their host communities and apply the knowledge and skills gained during the orientation programme to community development.

He said, “This administration would continue to strengthen and add value to youth empowerment initiatives aimed at improving productivity, self-reliance and the overall development of young people in the state.”
The governor also encouraged the corps members to serve as positive influences in their host communities by transferring useful knowledge and skills and supporting initiatives aimed at improving residents’ welfare.
He congratulated them on completing their university education and urged them to maintain discipline, integrity, patriotism and commitment to service throughout their NYSC programme.
Ododo further assured the corps members that his administration would prioritise their security and welfare during their stay in Kogi, while appealing to host communities to ensure they were welcomed and adequately supported.
The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Tochi, said the corps members had completed three weeks of intensive physical, mental and moral orientation designed to prepare them for the demands of the service year.
Tochi thanked the governor for his continued assistance to corps members in the state, including the provision of food items and financial support.
She described the latest N29.8 million intervention as timely and praised Ododo for his continued attention to the welfare of corps members.
