On 25th August 2026, a distinguished son of Bayelsa State, an accomplished Nigerian career diplomat and a man whose life has been defined by service, integrity, friendship and patriotism, His Excellency, Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni, arrived in Ouagadougou, the capital of the Republic of Burkina Faso, to assume duty as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
For those of us who have known Ambassador Endoni closely over many years, his arrival in Ouagadougou represents much more than the commencement of another diplomatic assignment. It is the continuation of a life of service to humanity, community and country. It is also a fitting recognition of a career diplomat who has devoted the greater part of his professional life to projecting the image, interests and aspirations of Nigeria on the international stage.
Ambassador Endoni arrived in Ouagadougou aboard ASKY Airlines, travelling through Lomé and Niamey, and received a truly warm and dignified welcome. He was received on arrival by the Director of Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities of the Burkinabè State House Protocol, Mr Albert Djiguembe, as well as the Ambassadors of Ghana and Chad, who represented the African Group of Ambassadors. He was also warmly received by officers of the Nigerian Embassy, led by the Minister, Muhammad Danladi Galadima, alongside members of the Nigerian community in Burkina Faso.
The warmth of the reception was further demonstrated when the new Nigerian Ambassador was presented with a bouquet of flowers and thereafter escorted to the Nigerian Embassy in Ouagadougou. There, school children, cultural groups and locally recruited staff of the Embassy joined in receiving him, in an atmosphere of celebration and goodwill. A reception and buffet dinner followed.
It was indeed a befitting welcome for a diplomat whose appointment has been greeted with considerable enthusiasm by those who know his professional competence, character and commitment to Nigeria.
During his interaction with members of the Nigerian community, Ambassador Endoni gave an assurance that I consider very significant. He pledged his readiness to work closely with Nigerians resident in Burkina Faso, with the objective of ensuring that they remain one family, one community and one Nigeria.
Those words are not mere diplomatic rhetoric. They reflect the personal philosophy of a man I have known for many years.
Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni is a patriot in the truest sense of the word. In our many conversations over the years, he has consistently maintained that Nigeria is stronger when united and that, notwithstanding our diversity of ethnicity, religion, language and culture, our collective destiny remains better served by a united, peaceful and indivisible Nigeria.
His belief in Nigeria is deep and genuine.
At a time when cynicism, ethnic suspicion and sectional sentiments sometimes threaten our national cohesion, Ambassador Endoni remains one of those Nigerians who believes that the future of our country must be built on unity, justice, mutual respect and shared prosperity. He understands that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division and that every Nigerian, whether at home or abroad, has a responsibility to contribute to the progress and stability of the country.
A Career Diplomat of Distinction
Ambassador Endoni’s appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Burkina Faso by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is a recognition of years of dedicated service in the Nigerian Foreign Service.
He is a thoroughbred career diplomat who has served Nigeria in several diplomatic missions around the world. His last posting was in New York, United States of America, where, until his appointment as Ambassador to Burkina Faso, he served as Chargé d’Affaires at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations.
Service at the United Nations requires a special combination of intellect, diplomacy, patience, negotiation, discretion and a clear understanding of the complexities of international relations. To serve in such an environment and rise to a position of such responsibility is evidence of the professional capacity and confidence Ambassador Endoni has earned within Nigeria’s diplomatic establishment and among his international colleagues.
His contributions at the United Nations were further recognised in February 2026 when he was elected Chair of the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, popularly known as the C-34, leading this important committee during its 2026 session.
The significance of this responsibility cannot be overstated.
The United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations occupies a critical position in the global effort to maintain international peace and security. Peacekeeping has become increasingly complex in a world confronted by armed conflicts, terrorism, political instability, humanitarian crises and fragile post-conflict societies.
To be entrusted with the leadership of such a committee is a testament not only to Ambassador Endoni’s professional competence but also to the respect he commands within the international diplomatic community.
It is also a source of pride to Nigeria.
Nigeria has historically played an important role in international peacekeeping and conflict resolution, particularly in Africa. Our country has contributed men, women, resources and leadership to peacekeeping operations around the world. Ambassador Endoni’s leadership of the C-34 during the 2026 session therefore represents a continuation of Nigeria’s longstanding tradition of contributing to international peace, security and diplomacy.
Beyond Diplomacy: A Man of Character
However, as impressive as his professional accomplishments are, they do not, in my view, fully capture the essence of Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni.
There are many successful people in public life. There are many accomplished professionals. There are also many people who hold important positions.
But the true measure of a human being is not only the office he occupies or the titles attached to his name. It is also reflected in the quality of his relationships, his loyalty to those who have shared his journey, his compassion for others, his devotion to family and community, and his willingness to remain accessible and humane despite the demands of public responsibility.
In these respects, Ambassador Endoni stands out.
He is a man of high integrity and discipline, but he is equally a man of compassion. He believes in service, not merely as an official responsibility but as a moral obligation to family, community and country.
His love for family is profound. He understands the importance of family as the first institution through which values, responsibility, compassion and discipline are transmitted from one generation to another. Despite the pressures and demands of an international diplomatic career, he has remained a family-oriented man who values the relationships and bonds that give meaning to human existence.
His attachment to his community is equally remarkable.
Like many sons and daughters of the Niger Delta who have travelled far from home and distinguished themselves in national and international service, Ambassador Endoni has not allowed professional success to separate him from his roots. He remains conscious of where he comes from and understands that personal success carries with it a responsibility to inspire and encourage others.
His commitment to country is unquestionable.
Throughout his diplomatic career, Ambassador Endoni has represented Nigeria with dignity, professionalism and pride. He understands that every Nigerian diplomat is, in many respects, the face of Nigeria to the world. The way a diplomat conducts himself, the values he projects and the relationships he builds all contribute to the image and reputation of our country.
I have always found him to be a true Ambassador of Nigeria in every ramification.
The Profound Meaning of Friendship
On a personal note, I write about Ambassador Endoni not merely as a Nigerian diplomat or a public servant, but as a good friend and brother of many years.
In an increasingly busy and complicated world, genuine friendship has become one of life’s greatest treasures.
Friendship is tested not when life is convenient but when demands increase, responsibilities multiply and time becomes scarce. It is easy to maintain relationships when one has unlimited time. The true character of friendship is revealed when a person, despite the pressures of work and life, still finds time to remember, call, encourage and remain connected with those who have been part of his journey.
This is one of the qualities I deeply admire in Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni.
His dedication, commitment and loyalty to friendship are profound.
Even with his busy schedule and the challenges created by differences in time zones during his postings abroad, he has always found time to call me regularly. These calls are not ceremonial or motivated by convenience. They are expressions of genuine friendship and brotherhood.
In a world where many relationships are sustained only by immediate interest, Ambassador Endoni represents a refreshing reminder that loyalty still matters.
He has remained constant.
He has remained accessible.
He has remained a friend.
For me, this is one of the greatest measures of his character. Positions may change. Diplomatic postings may change. Countries and continents may separate us. Time zones may differ. But genuine friendship, when founded on mutual respect and sincerity, remains.
Ambassador Endoni has demonstrated this repeatedly.
A Well-Deserved National Assignment
His appointment to Burkina Faso comes at an important period in West African affairs.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso share not only geographical and regional interests but also a common responsibility within the West African sub-region to promote peace, stability, economic cooperation and the welfare of our peoples.
The responsibilities before the Nigerian Ambassador in Ouagadougou are therefore significant.
Nigeria needs experienced, patient and intellectually sound diplomats who understand the changing dynamics of Africa and the world. Our foreign policy must continue to be driven by the protection of Nigeria’s national interests while also strengthening relationships with our African brothers and sisters.
I am confident that Ambassador Endoni possesses the experience, temperament and professional competence required for this important assignment.
He is not a stranger to international diplomacy.
He understands multilateral institutions.
He understands negotiation.
He understands the importance of dialogue.
He understands that diplomacy requires firmness without hostility, patriotism without arrogance and engagement without compromising national interest.
Most importantly, he understands Nigeria.
As arrangements proceed for the formal presentation of his Letters of Credence, I have no doubt that Ambassador Endoni will bring to his new assignment the same discipline, professionalism and commitment that have characterised his career.
A Round Peg in a Round Hole
I have often said that nations make their greatest progress when competence is recognised and the right people are assigned to responsibilities for which they are prepared.
Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni’s career has prepared him for leadership at the highest levels of international diplomacy.
If, in the future, Nigeria decides to appoint him as its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, I have no hesitation in saying that our country would have placed a round peg in a round hole.
Nigeria would have chosen a man who understands the workings of the United Nations from experience.
Nigeria would have chosen a diplomat who has already served at the heart of multilateral diplomacy.
Nigeria would have chosen a man who has demonstrated leadership among his international colleagues.

Nigeria would have chosen a patriot who understands that representing Nigeria is both an honour and a sacred responsibility.
And Nigeria would have chosen a man whose character and personal relationships reflect the humanity that must accompany leadership.
For now, however, Burkina Faso has the privilege of receiving him as Nigeria’s principal representative.
Congratulations, My Dear Friend
As Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni begins this new chapter of service to our great country, I join his family, friends, professional colleagues, the people of Bayelsa State, the Nigerian community in Burkina Faso and indeed Nigerians everywhere in congratulating him.
I am proud of you, my dear brother and friend.
I am proud of your many accomplishments.
I am proud of your contributions to peace, diplomacy and national development.
I am proud of your commitment to family and community.
I am proud of your patriotism.
And, on a deeply personal level, I am proud of the loyalty and constancy you have demonstrated in friendship over the years.
May your tenure in Burkina Faso be successful and fruitful.
May you continue to represent Nigeria with honour, wisdom and distinction.
May your diplomatic engagements contribute to stronger relations between Nigeria and Burkina Faso and to greater peace, stability and cooperation within our West African sub-region.
May you continue to inspire younger Nigerians, particularly those who aspire to careers in diplomacy and international service, to understand that excellence, discipline, integrity and loyalty remain indispensable virtues.
Above all, may God grant you good health, wisdom, protection and strength as you carry the flag of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in this important assignment.
Congratulations once again, Your Excellency, Ambassador Syndoph Paebi Endoni, on your arrival in Ouagadougou and assumption of duty as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Burkina Faso.
