…ex-NIMASA DG to examine nexus between politics, ports and public interest
Former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, is set to deliver the 2026 Annual Lecture of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council.
Peterside, a leadership architect, management turnaround expert and public policy commentator, will speak on the theme, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”
The lecture is expected to examine the relationship between Nigeria’s maritime sector, politics and the media, with particular attention to the role of journalism in promoting economic development and national prosperity.
A statement jointly signed by Adewale Akodu, Chairman, Press Week Committee, and Moses Omorogieva, Secretary, Press Week Committee, said the lecture would also interrogate whether the media can play a catalytic role in Nigeria’s ambition of building a trillion-dollar economy.
Peterside is expected to draw on his experience in leadership, governance, public policy, organisational transformation and the maritime sector to examine how Nigeria can better harness its ports and wider blue economy for economic growth.
The annual lecture is part of activities lined up for the 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Press Week, scheduled for Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The lecture will hold at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Press Week will continue with the Chapel Rendezvous on Thursday, October 1, from 4 p.m. within the LTV premises.

A Juma’at Service will hold on Friday, October 2, at 1 p.m. at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, CBD, Alausa, Ikeja.
Later that day, the council will host its Gala and Awards Night from 4 p.m. at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
The week will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 4, from 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational), CBD, Alausa, Ikeja.
The NUJ Lagos State Council urged journalists across the state to participate actively in the activities, describing the Press Week as an opportunity for media practitioners to network, exchange ideas, strengthen professional relationships and reflect on the contribution of journalism to society.
According to the council, the 2026 Press Week is also expected to provide a platform for journalists and stakeholders to celebrate shared professional values, promote unity and reaffirm their commitment to responsible and professional journalism.
