Former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has mourned veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs, describing his death at 84 as a loss beyond the entertainment industry.
In a condolence message shared on his official social media page on Wednesday, Atiku described Jacobs as “an institution, a cultural icon and one of the finest ambassadors of Nigeria’s creative spirit.”
He said Jacobs became a familiar figure to generations of Nigerians through his memorable roles, distinctive voice and longstanding contribution to the creative industry.
Atiku noted that Jacobs had established himself as an accomplished actor before Nollywood gained international recognition, adding that his work helped pave the way for younger generations of actors.

According to him, Jacobs’ contribution went beyond entertainment, as the characters he portrayed became part of the memories of Nigerians who grew up watching his films and television appearances.
“The curtain may have fallen on an extraordinary life, but the characters he gave us, the standards he set and the generations he inspired will continue to speak for him,” Atiku said.
He extended his condolences to Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children and other members of the family.
The ADC presidential candidate also commiserated with colleagues and members of Nollywood, the wider African creative industry and admirers of the late actor around the world.
He prayed for the repose of Jacobs’ soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
