Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) neutralised 1,106 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and arrested 758 suspected logistics collaborators during the tenure of outgoing Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.
Abubakar disclosed this on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during the handover of the Joint Task Force North East command to Major General Ibikunle Ajose at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.
Abubakar, who assumed office as the 15th Theatre Commander in April 2025, said troops recovered more than 475 assorted weapons and 24,409 rounds of ammunition, while 295 improvised explosive devices were discovered and safely detonated.
He said more than N300 million allegedly linked to terrorist financiers was also intercepted.
According to him, sustained military operations and non-kinetic measures contributed to the surrender of 969 JAS/ISWAP fighters and their family members within the preceding year.
The commander said troops rescued 638 civilians from terrorist enclaves, including all 46 students during an attempted abduction at the Federal Government Girls College, Monguno.

Several insurgent commanders were also reported neutralised, including Abu Bilal Al-Muniki, also known as Abu Mainok; Malam Jidda, Amir of Ngorgore/Malumti villages; Abu Modu; Modu Dogo; Munzir of Dogon Chukun; Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota; and Abul Kaka.
Beyond the battlefield, Abubakar said more than 7,000 displaced families returned to communities across Borno, while over 3,000 Nigerians were repatriated from Cameroon.
He cited the return of the National Youth Service Corps orientation programme to Maiduguri after more than 13 years, the resumption of WAEC and NECO examinations in Banki and Gwoza, and the reopening of trade routes and markets.
Abubakar credited the gains to cooperation among security agencies, the Borno State Government, humanitarian organisations, traditional institutions and communities.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Borno State Government for their support.
Ajose, who assumed office as the 16th Theatre Commander, pledged to sustain the campaign against insurgency and strengthen stakeholder collaboration across the North-East.
