Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, visited Plateau State and ordered intensified efforts to apprehend those behind a recent spate of deadly attacks.
Disu paid a condolence visit to the Plateau State Government and met with stakeholders over the security situation in the state.
His visit came three days after nine passengers were killed when a commercial bus was attacked at Dungus Junction, Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area.
Attacks were also reported in Vodni community, Pushit District of Mangu Local Government Area, and Tahoos community in Riyom Local Government Area.
“I am on the Plateau to discuss issues bothering on the killings in Mangu and other parts of the state,” Disu said.
The IGP disclosed that arrests had been made in connection with the recent incidents, although he did not give the number of suspects or details of the investigations.

“We are not happy with the situation, and I can assure you that we have made some arrests,” he said.
Disu said closer cooperation among the police, other security agencies, government authorities and local communities would be strengthened to tackle the recurring violence.
He assured the Plateau Government that the police would sustain joint operations and community engagement to prevent further attacks.
The latest incidents add to Plateau’s history of recurring violence. In June 2025, at least 12 people were killed and 11 injured when a passenger bus was attacked in Mangu after reportedly losing its way while travelling from Zaria to a wedding. Police later announced the arrest of 22 suspects.
In June 2026, at least 20 people were killed in an attack on Kawel community in Bokkos Local Government Area, with security personnel engaging the attackers before they retreated.
Disu’s visit comes amid renewed pressure on security agencies to protect vulnerable communities and travellers and bring perpetrators of the latest attacks to justice.
