Awoniyi Replaces Osimhen In Nigeria’s Squad For AFCON Qualifiers

Coventry City striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has been called up to replace Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed Awoniyi’s inclusion on Sunday following Osimhen’s withdrawal from the squad as he continues his recovery from a muscle strain.

Awoniyi returns to the Super Eagles setup as Nigeria prepare for the two qualifying fixtures.

The striker will now join the squad ahead of the crucial encounters against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau as the three-time African champions begin their campaign for a place at the 2027 AFCON.
