Obi Urges Peace As Umuoba-Anam, Aguleri Clash In Anambra

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has appealed to the people of Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri communities in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State to end hostilities and embrace peaceful resolution of their differences.

Obi, in a statement on Sunday, expressed sadness over reports of renewed tensions between the neighbouring communities, warning that continued violence would only result in loss of lives, destruction of property and further hardship for residents.

He noted that Nigerians were already grappling with worsening economic challenges, stressing that violent conflicts would further compound the difficulties faced by affected families.

The former Anambra State governor said no grievance, regardless of its magnitude, justified the killing of people, destruction of homes or disruption of livelihoods.

He urged both communities to immediately cease hostilities and pursue dialogue, reconciliation and mutual understanding as the way forward.

Obi stated that peaceful engagement remained a better alternative to violence, adding that revenge and destruction would only deepen divisions between the communities.

He also called on community leaders to exercise wisdom in addressing the situation and work towards restoring lasting peace.

“Let us choose dialogue over violence, reconciliation over revenge, and peace over destruction. There is always a better way to resolve our differences,” he said.

The former presidential candidate concluded by praying for wisdom for the leaders and lasting peace in Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future.

“Nigeria will be OK,” he added.
