Yobe Medical Director Loses Doctor, Pharmacist Twin Daughters Two Days Apart

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe State, Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, has lost her twin daughters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi, a medical doctor, and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, a pharmacist, within two days of each other.

Hadiyah and Aidah reportedly died on Friday, October 2, and Sunday, October 4, 2026, respectively, following complications associated with sickle cell disease.

Hadiyah died at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, where she had been receiving treatment for about a week after suffering a sickle cell crisis.

Her twin sister, Aidah, was receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period but was reportedly discharged after her condition improved.

Hadiyah was laid to rest on Friday following funeral prayers held at the Emir’s Palace.

Two days after attending her twin sister’s burial, Aidah reportedly visited Hadiyah’s grave.

She was said to have suddenly fainted after the visit and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, confirmed Aidah’s death in a post on its Facebook page, describing her as the “second twin” of Professor Usman.

The deaths of the two sisters within 48 hours have left their family, colleagues and the medical community mourning the loss of the young professionals.

Hadiyah was a medical doctor, while Aidah was a pharmacist, and both were daughters of the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.

Their deaths have also renewed attention to the devastating impact of sickle cell disease and the complications that can arise during severe crises.
