Jigawa Gov Promises Higher Allowance For NYSC Members

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has promised to review the allowances paid to National Youth Service Corps members serving in the state as part of efforts to improve their welfare and motivate them to contribute to its development.

Namadi made the commitment on Monday during the passing-out ceremony for the 2026 Batch C Stream corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.

He said the planned review was intended to recognise the contributions of corps members to the state and help them cope with prevailing economic difficulties.

He said, “We will review up and increase NYSC corpers allowance posted to the state to encourage them to give their best.”

The governor congratulated the corps members on completing their mandatory six-week orientation programme and encouraged them to uphold the values of the NYSC scheme in their places of primary assignment.

As part of the immediate support measures, Namadi announced a N10,000 transport allowance for each corps member to facilitate their movement to their assigned workplaces.

“We have provided N10,000 transportation allowance to each of you to ease your movement to your places of primary assignment,” he said.

He also disclosed plans to explore the construction of a larger hall at the orientation camp to accommodate corps members during gatherings and other activities.

“We will look at the possibility of construction of a bigger hall at this camp for your large gatherings.”

Addressing concerns over electricity supply, the governor assured the corps members that the state government would provide a bigger generator for the Fanisau camp to ensure a more reliable power supply.

“We will procure a larger generator at the NYSC camp in Fanisau to ensure steady power supply.”

Namadi said the planned interventions were aimed at improving the living conditions of corps members and camp officials.

Earlier, the NYSC Jigawa State Coordinator, Muhammad Baba, praised the governor for his continued assistance to the scheme and welcomed the latest commitments to the welfare of corps members.

Baba said the 2026 Batch C Stream participants had completed their orientation training and were prepared to begin their primary assignments.

He said, “These corps members have completed the mandatory orientation course and are ready to contribute to the development of Jigawa State.”

The coordinator expressed appreciation for the N10,000 transport allowance and other support provided by the state government, urging it to maintain its assistance to help the NYSC fulfil its objectives.

He also advised the corps members to respect the traditions and customs of their host communities and make meaningful contributions to their development.
