Omokri Defends Tinubu, Lists 30 Fulfilled Campaign Pledges

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, Reno Omokri, has listed 30 campaign promises he says President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled, defending the administration’s record across key sectors.

Omokri made the claims in a statement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, titled Thirty Promises Made and Kept by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, urging Nigerians to support the President.

He described Tinubu’s record as unprecedented in Nigeria’s political history since the 1914 amalgamation.

Among the achievements he highlighted were efforts to stabilise the naira, expand compressed natural gas (CNG) adoption, boost domestic refining and crude oil production, increase non-oil revenue and improve stock market performance.

He also cited local government financial autonomy, the expansion of rail services to the South-East and three major highway projects: the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Trans-Saharan Road.

The highways remain under construction. Government records put the Trans-Saharan route at 477 kilometres, compared with the 465 kilometres stated by Omokri. Similarly, higher crude production does not establish that oil theft has been eliminated.

On the economy, he credited the administration with achieving annual growth above four per cent. However, Nigeria’s economy grew by 3.87 per cent in 2025, despite expanding by 4.07 per cent in the fourth quarter.

In education, Omokri cited the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), efforts to resolve disputes with university lecturers and measures to ensure students complete four-year degree programmes within the stipulated period.

The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) reached a renegotiated agreement in December 2025, with implementation scheduled for January 2026.

He also listed the increase in the national minimum wage, higher National Youth Service Corps allowances and improved military remuneration among the administration’s welfare measures.

On foreign relations, Omokri highlighted Tinubu’s state visit to the United Kingdom on March 18 and 19, 2026, the first by a Nigerian president since 1989. He also cited direct Lagos-London flights by a Nigerian airline, passport availability and visa arrangements involving Ethiopia and Kenya.

Other claims covered aviation safety, relations between the Executive and Legislature, trade balances, elections in Osun State and outstanding payments to the Super Eagles.

The statement comes months after Tinubu marked his third year in office on May 29, 2026, highlighting economic reforms, infrastructure projects and education initiatives while acknowledging persistent challenges in improving living conditions.

Omokri maintained that Tinubu had delivered on a significant number of his campaign commitments and called on Nigerians to support the administration.
