One person was feared killed and many others injured on Tuesday when the police and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as Shiites, clashed.
It was learn that the incident occurred at the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory close to the National Human Rights Commission.
Police were said to have fired shots and teargas canisters to disperse the Shiites during the protest, but in the process, one of them was hit by a bullet.
Smokes of the canisters billowed the air while the sounds of gunshots rented the air.
President, Academic Forum of IMN, Abdullahi Mohammed, said that many people were injured during the incident.
Mohammed said IMN would soon issue a statement on the incident.
Efforts to get the police to respond were unsuccessful.
