Governor Seyi Makinde led government of Oyo State has imposed a 12-hour curfew in parts of Akinyele LGA, Ibadan, as hoodlums relaunch attacks in Ojoo, Shasa market.
Hoodlums comprising Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba youths, on Saturday took over Idi-Ori, Ojoo and Shasa areas, unleashing terror on the traders and the residents of the area.
This incident which was coming barely 24 hours after reported death of no fewer than four persons and destruction of properties worth thousands of naira at the popular Shasa foodstuffs market in Akinyele area, has thrown the entire area into a state of confusion as people now scampered for safety
At the time of filing this report, the Ojoo, Idi-Ori and Shasa market areas have been declared as a no go areas for passersby and traders.
The Hoodlums have defiled the heavy presence of the security operatives deployed to the area, as the two tribes engaged each other in a free for all fight. Several market stalls and residential buildings have been set ablaze. No record of lost of lives has been recorded at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the government in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Taiwo Adisa said, “His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde has directed the immediate closure of Shasha market indefinitely following reports of a breach of peace in the area.
“The governor has also approved the imposition of curfew on Shasha. It will run from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
“Residents of the affected area are enjoined to go about their legitimate businesses within the hours stipulated by the law.
“Anyone caught disrupting the peace of the community will be made to face the wrath of the law.”
