ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, Yenagoa

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State and a member of the PDP Presidential Campaign in 2019, Mr. Sele-Epri Mathew, has responded to rumours making the round that he plans to dump the party.

Matthew, who is also the PDP Ward Leader in Koluama 1 Community, Southern Ijaw Ward 17 in the state, denied the speculations and described it as false and baseless.

He an interview on Tuesday he admitted there were some personal issues with some political leaders but said that the issues were not connected to the party.

Matthew said: “It is not true that I am defecting from the PDP to any other party. I still remain a staunch and loyal member of the party.

“Though there are personal issues, they are not connected to the party. I have been a loyal member of the PDP, so no issues at the moment can warrant me dumping the party. I will continue to work for the progress and aspirations of the party.

“I want to say here and now that the report that I was defecting to another party is not correct. It is unfounded and untrue.”

Before his clarifications, speculations were rife that Matthew and his supporters had perfected plans to leave the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was speculated that Matthew’s reason for planning to abandon the PDP which he had toiled for over the years was due to perceived persecution of his Koluama 1 people by Koluama 2 PDP stakeholders under the alleged supervision of a Senator representing their district and another party bigwig.
