The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko branch, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU.
The Chairman of the union, Prof. Boluwaji Oshodi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Akure.
The latest industrial action came barely a week after the union suspended an earlier strike over unpaid salary backlogs following the payment of outstanding salaries.
Oshodi said the union had given the Ondo State Government adequate time to address the issue through several letters and requests for meetings, but that no concrete action had been taken on the implementation of the agreement.
He said the union would not return to the classrooms based on promises or assurances, insisting that the government must take tangible steps towards implementing the agreement.
“The union has just declared an indefinite, total, and comprehensive strike over the non-implementation of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)/ASUU 2025 agreement.
“The resolution is that if that agreement is not implemented here, and the arrears from January are not paid, we are not going to resume.
“We are not ready to listen to anything like commitment again. What we want now is action,” he said.
The ASUU chairman expressed concern over what he described as the reluctance of the state government to implement the agreement, noting that several other states had already commenced implementation.

He questioned why Ondo State should be different, particularly given its status as an oil-producing state.
“Why will our own be different in Ondo State, an oil-producing state?” he queried.
On the possibility of intervention by the state governor, Oshodi said the union remained open to dialogue but maintained that academic activities would not resume until implementation of the agreement commenced and the outstanding arrears were paid.
“The union is always open, but the truth of the matter is that the implementation must commence, and the arrears from January to date must be paid,” he emphasised.
The FGN-ASUU 2025 agreement includes an upgraded salary structure, a 40 per cent review for academic staff and the payment of accumulated salary arrears.
The development comes a day after the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Imo State University, Owerri branch, also declared a total and indefinite strike over alleged failure by the Imo State Government and university management to implement an agreement concerning improved welfare and conditions of service for academic staff.
