President Muhammadu Buhari has warned terrorists and bandits targeting schools and kidnapping students for ransom.
Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Saturday, stated that Buhari vowed not to allow the destruction of the country’s school system by such criminals.
The President also commended efforts of the Kaduna State Government and military’s early response, which led to the rescue of 180 students, including eight staff members.
He, however, ordered security forces to rescue other students still missing and return them safely to their family members.
The President also hailed efforts and contributions of local intelligence in checking the menace of the kidnappers, saying that a country which has an efficient local intelligence network is a safer country.
“Our military may be efficient and well-armed but it needs good efforts for the nation’s defence and the local population must rise to this challenge of the moment.”
President Buhari, who expressed sympathy with the victims of the latest school kidnap incident, hoped for an early end to the ordeal of those still held captive.
