Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has predicted total support for President Bola Tinubu in the state in the 2027 general election, saying Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike’s backing could boost the All Progressives Congress (APC).
AbdulRazaq spoke on Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Ilorin while receiving an APC Presidential Campaign Council delegation led by its Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari.
He put the APC’s support in Kwara at 70 per cent against 30 per cent for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming the opposition had continued to weaken since 2019.
The governor argued that Wike’s endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election could consolidate both blocs, potentially giving the President 100 per cent support in the state. He described Kwara as one of the easiest states for the APC to win, although his figures were not independently verified.
The prediction comes despite tensions between AbdulRazaq and Wike over the minister’s political relationships with aggrieved APC stakeholders in Kwara.
On September 2, 2026, Wike accused the governor of working against him and said he had confronted AbdulRazaq over the alleged hostility. The dispute is linked to political divisions within the state APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike has nevertheless maintained his support for Tinubu’s re-election despite disagreements with some APC governors.
AbdulRazaq also backed the party’s governorship candidate, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, describing him as a grassroots politician capable of sustaining his administration’s programmes.
Defending his record since taking office in 2019, the governor cited developments in education, healthcare and the civil service, saying earlier problems with unpaid salaries, pensions and gratuities had been addressed.
Yari said the delegation visited to recognise AbdulRazaq’s contributions to the APC and secure his continued support for the party’s nationwide campaign.
Former governors Aminu Bello Masari, Rochas Okorocha, Ali Modu Sheriff, Adamu Aleiro, Abubakar Badaru, Ibrahim Shema, Sani Yerima, Danjuma Goje, Abdullahi Ganduje and Olusegun Mimiko attended, alongside former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole and former lawmaker Olubunmi Ette.
The delegation later visited the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to seek prayers for Tinubu’s re-election and other APC candidates.
The party’s ability to manage internal divisions could prove crucial to its electoral prospects in Kwara in 2027.
