Governor Dapo Abiodun on Thursday, the 19th of February, 2026, inaugurated the Lantoro–Oke-Yidi–Isale Ake Junction Road in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, stating that the development forms part of a calculated infrastructure expansion strategy designed to strengthen connectivity and drive economic activities within Ogun Central Senatorial District.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the governor disclosed that with the completion of the newly reconstructed road, his administration has successfully delivered 29 road projects across Ogun Central in the last six years. He added that 10 more road projects currently underway would soon be completed and unveiled, increasing the total number to 39.
Abiodun further revealed that reconstruction work on the Carwash–Moore Junction Road in Abeokuta South would begin without delay, underscoring the importance of the state capital as the administrative and political nerve centre of Ogun State.
The governor explained that the choice of roads executed in the district followed wide consultations under his administration’s participatory governance framework, which involved engagement with traditional institutions, religious leaders, market groups and other community stakeholders.
“In the last six years in Ogun Central, we have constructed 29 roads. They were selected through our participatory and inclusive governance approach. Our kabiyesi, including the Alake of Egbaland, Muslim faithful, Christian clergy, market men and women, among others, all sat together to determine which roads were most critical and should be prioritised,” he said.
He maintained that his government remains committed to delivering results despite what he described as “sponsored propaganda” from detractors, assuring residents that additional projects would be inaugurated between now and July.
Abiodun characterized the Lantoro–Oke-Yidi–Isale Ake Road as a major corridor within Abeokuta, providing vital access to institutions such as Sacred Heart Hospital, the School of Nursing and the Muslim praying ground, while also functioning as an alternative route connecting significant parts of the city.

According to him, the project demonstrates his administration’s resolve to ensure balanced infrastructure distribution and create enduring legacies through responsible governance.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, stated that the project delivers on campaign pledges made to the people and would ease transportation difficulties while boosting commercial activities in the axis.
In his remarks, Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo reflected on his personal connection to the area, noting that his school farm was previously situated along the corridor. He highlighted the road’s role in linking healthcare facilities and serving as a strategic bypass within the capital.
Also speaking, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, who represents Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, praised the governor for maintaining fairness in the allocation of projects statewide.
Residents expressed appreciation for the intervention. Nurudeen Olaleye, Chairman of Alternative Medicine and a community stakeholder, disclosed that the road had been in a deteriorated state for nearly three decades. Rasak Adebayo Solebo, representing transport unions, said the rehabilitation would lower vehicle maintenance expenses and enhance commuting conditions for both operators and passengers.
