Abuja Indigenes Set to Honour Wike for Transforming FCT Infrastructure

The original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will honour Minister of the FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, with the Nigeria Infrastructure Minister of the Year Award on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

According to a statement on Sunday by the Secretary-General of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association, Samuel Aye, the award recognises Wike’s contributions to infrastructure development in outer city districts and satellite towns in Abuja.

The statement described Wike as a development-focused minister who has “written his name in the annals of good governance” since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu in 2023. It noted that under his leadership, the FCT has witnessed unprecedented infrastructural projects in Karu and other communities.

The award ceremony will take place at the Jummai Aduda Townhall in Karu District, Abuja, alongside a public lecture on the FCT 2026 elections by former Nigerian Ambassador to Gambia, Amb. Ayuba Ngbako. The event will also feature scholarship awards for indigent persons and an empowerment scheme for residents of Karu Chiefdom.

The association highlighted several of Wike’s completed and ongoing projects, including the rehabilitation of the Nyanya-Karu-Jikwoyi-Karshi Highway, the Kugbo Bus Terminal, Kugbo International Market, reconstruction of Karu township roads, and the Karu Water Supply (Lot 2) project, which involves laying 194 km of pipes to provide clean water to surrounding communities.

The statement also praised Wike’s collaboration with Senator Tanimu Aduda and the appointment of their son-in-law, Engr. Richard Dauda, as Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority.

The Karu Gbagyi Development Association commended Wike’s decision to terminate the long-delayed Apo–Karshi road contract and award it to a more competent construction firm, noting it brought relief to residents.

While praising the minister’s infrastructural achievements, the association appealed for intervention in the non-appointment of FCT indigenes to federal positions, including career and non-career ambassadorships and positions on the North Central Development Commission board.

Wike has been widely recognised for transforming Abuja and its environs into a construction hub, with road construction, expansion, and rehabilitation ongoing across all six Area Councils.
