Abuse Claims Reversed: Enugu Father Exonerated, Wife Faces Legal Action

Enugu State authorities have cleared Mr Ozioma Okonkwo of allegations that he sexually abused his two young daughters, aged two and five, following thorough medical and forensic investigations that found no evidence of misconduct.

The ordeal began on 25 October 2025, when Mr Okonkwo, a resident of Enugu State originally from Imo State, was arrested after his wife, Mrs Chisom Okonkwo, accused him of assaulting their children.

The allegations immediately placed the family at the center of public attention, sparking concern for the children’s welfare.

During the investigation, the children were placed in protective custody, where they received medical attention and psychosocial support.

After the assessments were completed, Mr Okonkwo was released unconditionally.

Following these developments, a charge sheet dated 29 October 2025 was issued against Mrs Okonkwo.

According to the document, her alleged offences are contrary to Section 323 and punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.

The charge sheet partly reads:

“That you Chisom Okonkwo f on the 27th day of October, 2025 at State Intelligent Department (SID), Enugu within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did give false information to the Police Detectives that one Okonkwo Ozioma ‘m’ defile your two daughters, which made the Police officers arrest and detain him, the information you knew to be false and an action he wouldn’t have taken if the true facts were made known to them and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.”

Mrs Okonkwo is accused of knowingly providing statements that led to her husband’s wrongful arrest and public humiliation.

The date for her court appearance has not yet been announced.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of careful, evidence-based investigations in cases involving children.

They reiterated their commitment to child protection and urged the public to exercise caution before making serious allegations.

Meanwhile, the children continue to receive ongoing care and support from the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development.
