Nollywood actress Chiamaka Nwokeukwu has announced her decision to leave her marriage, alleging that her husband attempted to facilitate the relocation of a former girlfriend to Europe while maintaining their marriage.
The actress made the disclosure in an emotional statement shared on social media, where she detailed what she described as years of emotional strain caused by her husband’s prolonged stays abroad and alleged infidelity.
Nwokeukwu said she was unaware when they got married that her husband would spend extended periods abroad, sometimes staying away for nearly two years before returning to Nigeria for short periods.
According to her, the arrangement left her shouldering most of the responsibilities of raising their family, despite remaining married.
“When my husband and I got married, he never told me that he was going to leave me in Nigeria and stay abroad for almost two years at a time,” she said.
She alleged that her husband would return home for about a month before travelling back to Europe, leaving her to handle family responsibilities largely on her own.
Nwokeukwu said she sacrificed her career and invested heavily in the marriage because she wanted to build a stable home.
However, she claimed she later discovered that her husband had maintained a relationship with an ex-girlfriend identified as Anita, whom she alleged he had continued to promise marriage even after marrying her.
The actress further alleged that her husband had taken steps to facilitate Anita’s move to Europe, claiming he had previously processed a visa for her, although the application was unsuccessful.

“He even did first visa for her but she got denied and was about to try again. You are now free to marry her,” she wrote.
Nwokeukwu also alleged that the woman was connected to her family in another capacity, claiming that her husband invited her to their home to plait their daughter’s hair.
The actress said she became aware of the alleged relationship after the former girlfriend’s friend contacted her and shared information with her.
According to Nwokeukwu, the discovery was particularly painful because she had publicly praised her husband and continued to pray for the success of their marriage.
She also raised concerns about what she described as activities involving her husband that conflicted with her Christian beliefs.
Nwokeukwu said she felt vulnerable after discovering the alleged circumstances surrounding her marriage and expressed gratitude to God for what she described as protection and revelation.
“I honestly can’t continue in a marriage like this. It is extremely painful, but I have to choose myself and my peace. I am totally done,” she said.
The actress added that despite her decision to leave, she intended to continue praying for her husband.
“I gave this marriage my all. I did my best. Now, I choose myself,” she stated.
Nwokeukwu’s disclosure has generated reactions on social media, with discussions focusing on the challenges of long-distance marriages, alleged infidelity and the emotional toll of marital disputes.
The allegations remain claims made by the actress, and her husband’s response to the accusations was not included in her statement.
