Actress Ufoma McDermott Opens Up: How Painkillers Led to My Kidney Damage

Nollywood actress Ufoma McDermott has opened up about her battle with kidney disease, revealing it resulted from years of painkiller misuse.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, McDermott shared her 12-year journey managing the illness and urged people to prioritize their health, explaining that her condition was caused by long-term painkiller abuse.

“I wish everyone understood the importance of health. My brother was diagnosed late, at stage 4 kidney disease, and went straight into dialysis with complications.

“I was diagnosed earlier and have been on medication for nearly 12 years. When my brother consulted my cardiologist, our parents worried it might be genetic, but we traced it to drug abuse.

“I grew up with migraines and eye pain but avoided wearing glasses to escape looking like a geek. Instead, I took strong painkillers to ease the pain,” she said.
