Adamawa Attacks: Northern Senators Demand Military Offensive

The Northern Senators Forum has called for an immediate military offensive against insurgents operating along the Kopre-Sambisa corridor in Adamawa State following attacks on two military positions.

Chairman of the forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, representing Katsina Central, made the demand in a statement on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The attacks, which occurred between September 30 and October 1, targeted the 226 Battalion in Garkida, Gombi Local Government Area, and the 232 Battalion in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area.

The Nigerian Army said troops repelled the attacks, but three soldiers were killed and others wounded.

In related operations, troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed 16 terrorists during an ambush on an insurgent enclave in Boima, Gombi Local Government Area, recovering firearms and ammunition.

The senators said the violence also affected surrounding communities, with reports of killings, abductions of women and children, destruction of property, attacks on places of worship and the displacement of hundreds of residents.

Communities listed by the forum include Garaha, Dabna, Bangna, Mubang, Zah, Bitirhuya, Kwapre, Mayo Ladde, Gaya-Dlang, Garkida, Boima and Guyaku.

Yar’Adua urged the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to reinforce troops in the area and dismantle insurgent enclaves through sustained operations.

The forum also asked the National Emergency Management Agency and the North-East Development Commission to provide relief for displaced residents.

It urged residents to share credible intelligence with security agencies to help prevent further attacks.

The latest violence comes amid continuing military operations in the Hong-Gombi axis, where troops have been conducting ground and air missions against terrorist groups.

The senators said stronger military pressure and improved intelligence gathering were essential to protecting communities and preventing further displacement.
