ADC Clarifies Ruling, Says Court Did Not Sack Mark, Aregbesola

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports that a Federal High Court removed Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 11, by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the reports as false and politically motivated.

Abdullahi explained that Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling delivered on September 4, 2025, only turned down an ex-parte application brought by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe.

The judge instead directed that the defendants be served with notice to appear in court, with the case adjourned until September 15.

“The court did not restrain Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from serving as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC,” the statement clarified.

“What was ordered was that the defendants be put on notice and asked to show cause why the application should not be granted.”

The certified ruling, signed by Justice Nwite and confirmed by court registrar Kasope Kafayat Bola, contained four orders: dismissal of the ex-parte motion, notice to defendants, directive for their appearance, and adjournment of the matter.

The ADC accused certain political actors of deliberately twisting the ruling to create confusion following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recognition of its new leadership.

“Having failed to prevent INEC from recognising the leadership change, these agents are now misrepresenting court rulings to destabilise our party and weaken the opposition,” the statement read.

The party urged the media and the public to cross-check information before circulating it, warning that the spread of misinformation only fuels political instability.
