ADC: We Haven’t Appointed South-West Chairman, Inauguration Fake

The African Democratic Congress has denied appointing a South West Chairman or planning any inauguration ceremony, following circulation of a flier announcing such an event.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, issued a disclaimer on his official X handle on Thursday, January 29, distancing the ADC from the purported inauguration of Hon. Rahman Owokoniran and his executive committee scheduled for Saturday, January 31, in Ibadan.

“This is to inform the general public that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has not appointed any South West Chairman,” Abdullahi stated.

“Furthermore, the ADC is not inaugurating any South West Chairman at this time.”

The national publicity secretary urged Nigerians to disregard the claims and exercise caution regarding any activities suggesting such an inauguration would take place.

“The public is therefore advised to take note of this information and exercise caution regarding any claims or activities suggesting otherwise,” he said.

The disclaimer comes as the ADC, which has emerged as a platform for opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi, intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party recently inaugurated a 50-member policy and manifesto committee headed by former Edo State Governor John Oyegun, with political economy professor Pat Utomi as deputy chairman.
