Adeleke Orders Early Closure for Osun Workers Due to Ramadan, Lent Fasting

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has sanctioned a temporary reduction in official working hours for civil servants in the state to accommodate those observing the Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons.

The development was made public in Osogbo on Thursday, the 19th of February, 2026, through a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. The statement explained that the decision forms part of efforts to ease the burden on workers participating in the religious observances.

Governor Adeleke noted that “the adjusted timetable will take effect from Thursday, 19 February 2026, and will remain in force throughout the fasting season.”

Further particulars were outlined in a circular released by the Office of the Head of Service and endorsed by Elder Ayanleye Aina. The directive, captioned “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” detailed new closing times for government employees across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Under the revised schedule, civil servants are to end work at 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting period.

The circular stated, “As part of the welfare packages of the State Government for its workforce, the Executive Governor… has graciously approved that public servants should close work by 2pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and 1pm on Fridays, during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only.”

It further explained that the adjustment is aimed at allowing workers sufficient time to engage in prayers and other spiritual commitments tied to the fasting exercise.

However, the circular clarified that essential service providers, especially health workers, are excluded from the new arrangement due to the sensitive and critical responsibilities attached to their roles.

Political appointees, accounting officers, heads of agencies, and local government authorities were instructed to ensure full adherence to the directive and circulate the information appropriately within their respective offices.
