Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has weighed in on reports indicating that certain United States lawmakers are considering sanctions against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Reacting via his X account on Wednesday, the 11th of February, 2026, Ahmad expressed astonishment over Kwankwaso’s inclusion in the proposed measure.
“I am not holding a brief for Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, but I genuinely wonder how his name appeared there,” he wrote.
Drawing from his personal interactions and observations, Ahmad insisted that Kwankwaso has consistently denounced terrorism throughout his public career.

“All the time I have known him and throughout his service as Governor, Minister of Defence, Senator and now as a political leader, he has consistently taken a firm stance against terrorism and terrorists in all forms,” he added.
The reaction follows the introduction of a proposed legislation by US lawmakers, including Riley Moore and Chris Smith, titled the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026.
According to reports, the bill proposes targeted sanctions, visa restrictions, and asset freezes against Kwankwaso and certain Fulani herder groups.
