An Air Peace aircraft veered off the runway after landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning, the airline confirmed in an official statement.
Flight P47190, which departed Lagos earlier in the day, experienced what is known as a “runway excursion” upon touching down.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, stated via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle that while certain occurrences are out of an airline’s control, operators must always prioritize passenger safety and communication.
The airline clarified that while the aircraft veered slightly off the runway, no damage was recorded and all passengers onboard disembarked without injury.
“Air Peace confirms that its Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport,” said the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-whiskey Efe. “All passengers disembarked safely and calmly. No injuries were reported.”
The airline emphasized that the situation was handled swiftly and professionally by the crew, and it remains committed to the highest safety standards.

“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” the statement read.
Sunday’s incident adds to a string of recent operational challenges for the airline.
Recall that just two months ago, on May 11, another Air Peace aircraft was grounded at Asaba International Airport after colliding with a large antelope while taxiing on the runway.
Though the aircraft was not severely damaged, the collision caused significant flight disruptions.
Despite recent setbacks, Air Peace remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent carriers and continues to assure customers of its commitment to safety and reliable service.
